Need some direction on an alignment issue
Back in Dec I took my car with new tires to Butler Tire (the premire performance tire shop in Atlanta, GA) for a wheel alignment because they worked on all exotic cars and seemed to know what they're doing. Well, this past wknd I noticed that my front tires were wearing down on the outside edge a lot more than the inside. So I took it back to Butler and asked them why this was happening because I had just had an alignment done. They checked it and said that the specs were fine. The wearing was probably due to tire design and cornering? I didn't buy that but I just figued I needed to rotate more often.
Today I went to Kauffman tire (where I bought the tires) for my scheduled rotate and balance and the tech noticed the uneven wearing too. He said it was due to the toe being way out. He gave me specs and the weird thing is that Kauffmans specs are different from Butler Tires. Take a look at the front left and right:
Butler:
Camber -0.9 -0.5
Caster 5.2 4.6
Toe 0.16 0.14
Kauffman:
Camber -0.7 -0.4
Caster
Toe -0.20 0.25
The Camber is similar but the Toe is way different. What do you guys think? What should I do? I don't want to ruin another set of tires. I don't know who to trust for a good alignment reading.
BTW: at the top of the alignment reports, Butler Tire has "A4/S4 : 1998-2001 : Quattro : Standard Suspension." And Kauffmans says "A4 : 1998-2001 : Sport Suspension." I've got Bilsteins and HR springs with the ECS coilover conversion kit. The height is set at about stock sport height and Butler set the height for me. So I wonder why they have non-sport specs.
