I'll post this here and in the tire/wheel forum:
I have a 2005 A6 4.2 with 18" wheels/Michelin PilotSport PS2's. I live in Denver and obviously need snows for the winter (it actually doesn't snow that much in the city, but when it does...)
I was thinking I'd buy a set of 17" wheels and snow tires and have them mounted in October. Any thoughts on good combos? The tires don't have to be "high performance".. Thanks.

Yes, it is suggested to minus size to 17" and use either 235/45R17 or 245/45R17. You may view the complete list of winter tires and wheels that we have available for your car here :

winter

Thanks Gary. I have already perused your website, just wondering if there were specific tires and/or wheels that people felt strongly about. But since I've got your attention, is there any substantive difference between the Blizzak LM-22 and LM-25 other than the speed ratings? Thanks.

For winter wheels, it mostly about cosmetics versus price. I like finishes that do not have machined lips as they tend to do a bit better in winter salted road conditions.
The LM25 is the direct replacement for the LM22 tires. We've found the LM25 have done just as well in all areas as the old LM22 <which was quite good>, perhaps slightly better overall.

Thanks! I'll give you a call soon. Do new tires and/or wheels come out any time soon, or should I go ahead and order what you have online in the next couple of weeks?

I don't forsee many new tire designs and/or wheel styles due in this particular fitment within the next month or so, so order at your convenience. Just don't wait too long into OCT/NOV when inventories start to get weak.
