Default new tire choices,

I am shopping for new tires for my A4 Avant QMS.
I have checked out the following tires at the Rack. Any comments would be helpfull.

Bridgestone potenza RE71 $95
Dunlop Sp 8000 $86
Pirellie P7000 SS $109

The Pirellis seem the most pricey but I have heard the tread wear is good for 50k which would justify the price. Any other suggestions I might be missing. I am trying to stay around $100/tire. I love the performance of my OEM Dunlop 8000's
so thats the performance benchmark I'm using.

Default Re: new tire choices,

The Pirellis are great in the wet. However, you will be disappointed with the dry performance of the Pirellis if your benchmark is the SP 8000's. They also seem to get noisier as they wear. As a general rule, the higher the treadwear, the less sticky the tire will be.

Default Re: new tire choices,

Is that $86 price for the SP 8000 tires or the SP 8000E units that I believe come with the Sports Pkg?? I can't find the 8000E tires on the Tire Rack's web site, but they were in their print ads last month for substantially more money than the 8000s. Anyone know the difference between these two tires?

If your OEM 8000s are your benchmark, then you'd better be sure which 8000s you have before you buy replacements.

Default Get the Toyo Proxes T1 if they're still available.

The Bridgestone RE71s are good, but loud.

Default Proxes T1+ are great, but I doubt you'll find them for ~ $100

The Proxes T1+ has been replaced with the Proxes T1-S. Before the T1-S came out, I saw the T1+ for about $150/tire. I ended up getting them for $125/tire (in 225/50-16 size) which is a great price if you can get it. This is an Ultra-High Performance (summer) tire, which can't really be compared to an all-season tire like the 7000SS. I think it will run rings around the 7000SS in warm weather (dry or wet), but it will not perform well in cold weather.

You won't find them at the Tire Rack, but if you go to Toyo's webpage, they have a dealer locator.

Toyo Dealer Locator
