Default NTB Bait and Switch tire mounting!

Wanted to get 4 tires mounted, went to NTB with their Tire Rack Print out of a "Price Pledge" mount and balance on 40 series tires for $17.50 each, or $70.00 for all four.

Guy there told me...nope!...You have "performace tires" (Kuhmo nMX 225/45/17), your job will be $185.30. What do they mount cheap in that size? SNOW TIRES?

Packed my tires home, (2 trips! BMW M COUPE) and sit here pissed off and wondering where to go for tire mounting.

Default $185 is pretty ridiculous.

I got my snow tires mounted last november for $70 at an independent repair shop. Had my summer tires put on at Big O this spring for $54 I beleive. This is for size 235/45/17.

I would try the Goodyear Auto Svc Center #4245 in Katy. That seems to be the top-ranked installer in your area, and their listed price for 40-series tires is $19.70 per corner. Based on your tire selection, it doesn't appear that your M Coupe has run-flats (and subsequently tire pressure monitoring), but even if NTB was charging for those services, it still wouldn't come close to $185.

As a follow up, I'd send a message to Gary @ Tire Rack giving him the details of what happened (the store, who you talked to, etc). Since those are listed prices from an installer that has Tire Rack's Price Pledge, they would probably be interested in knowing about it.

Default I will try that Goodyear after work tomorrow.

Goodyear wanted $29.99/tire to mount, $11.99 ea to balance, $16 "shop fee" and some other crap to arrive at that total. Far from the $17.50 that THEY THEMSELFS posted on the Tire Rack site.

I've had good experience carrying new tires into Wal-Mart as long as you don't have a Tire Pressure Monitoring System. I have taken several cars into different stores over the last few years including an A4 with 17". I plan to take my A3 to them in the next month after I decide on a tire. The last tires (285/70/17E) they mounted was few months back on my Dodge for about $50 total.
I can already hear you say "Wal-Mart... No way" but my store is a year old, has the newest equipment and best customer service in town.

P.S. I have worked for Discount Tire and NTB in the past.

Thanks
Shawn

Default After I emailed Tire Rack, NTB Corporate, and the NTB Store itself....

The store manager called to say it was a "miss-understanding"..

They offered to mount my tires for FREE while I supervised. Free is GOOD! Tires all mounted now, no damage to wheels.
