Default Out-of-round tire/vibration questions...

Can it cause damage to your car (suspension, steering, brakes, etc.)? I apparently have one new 17" ContiExtreme in the rear that is out-of-round. Will it wear down tires quicker? Is it also a safety issue? I've started to slow down when my A4 starts vibrating/pulsating heavily at 85pmh+. How does tire inflation affect out-of-round tire? Will that help minimize vibration? Thanks.

It will eventually lead to uneven tire wear and may cause premature failure of wheel bearings and suspension components. Basically, same thing as unbalanced tire. An out-of-round tire is a tire that cannot be properly balanced.

Is the tire relatively new? Take it back to the place you bought it from and ask for a replacement. If they refuse, contact Continental directly.

Default got the tires from...

Tirerack. Put 350 miles on them so far. TR refused to pay for Hunter balancer test, but did offer to replace out of round tire and pay for 3rd M&B. The woman insisted that the out-of-round tire could be the only problem. They did this after talking to my moronic TR approved installer (25 bucks a wheel no less)who mounted an out-of-round tire on my A4 and rebalanced them twice but my car still vibrates/makes loud noise. The guy put so many wheel weights on to compensate; I think he did it wrong. If new installer can't M&B my new "round" tire then I'm planning to returning it to TR or Conti and get it done at my local Audi dealer. I don't have the time or patience to deal with multiple M&B, flat spotting, noise, vibration, etc. Read today other people have same problems with these tires, not many, say 1 out of 20 on TR reviews. It may be a design defect. Not sure what to replace them with though.

Default its okay, you can say it in the subject....it was us

My customer service department should reimburse up to $25/30 each for a hunter road force check. I don't remember exactly, but I think you said that a local shop had charged you $170 for only two? Thats pretty high... Either way we should replace any tire that is found to be out of round. If you're not taken care of in that aspect, let me know and I'll see what I can get done.

We've had a very small precentage of customers report the exact same problem, so it is possible that there was perhaps a small batch that had an issue. We're investigating with Continental, but it may be awhile to see if there is an issue.

I appreciate your offer and if the 3rd try doesn't work I'll call you directly.

Just to clarify how to proceed if it comes down to that. I won't be able to do anything over the phone, but instead send me an email with a link to this post <to refresh my memory!> and include your order # or full name. I can then forward that email to management and discuss the situation with them.

Default To Gary - Tire recommendation vs. ContiExtreme

What would be your next tire recommendation if we were concerned about this latest issue with the ContiExtreme? and staying within the same price range? Pirelli PZero Nero M+S?

Default I'm curious too...thinking maybe SP5000 or Pilot A/S.

Granted the Pilot A/S is a LOT more but it might be worth it.

Yes, Pirelli for very light snow, or the 5000/Sport A/S for a bit more snow
