I just took my new set of 18" S4 Avus wheels to put on my 2001 A4 with stock sport suspension. They refused to put them on because they said it was going to rub. The tires size was 235/40/18.
Will it rub?

225/40R18 is more common to use on the B5 A4.
We have had reports of rubbing with 235/40R18, normally on the inside front suspension.<ul><li><a href="http://www.tirerack.com/a.jsp?a=AR8&url=/tires/index.jsp">Tires</a></li></ul>

The offset on the 18" S4 Avus wheels are either ET43 or ET45. Could that be the reason why it's too close to the inside part of the suspension? If I were to purchase wheels with an ET35 and use the same tires, will I have a problem?
Also, I was thinking about getting 8mm spacers so that way it will bring my current ET43 or ET45 wheels out to about an ET36. What is your opinion on spacers? Are there any cons with using spacers?

Even with ET35 wheels, the fit is aggresive. Too little offset and you'll come close to/ may rub on the fenders. Your best bet is to stick to 225/40R18.
