Is it possible to go plus one-half?

What consequences would there be to putting 17" wheels with 50 series tires on an A6 2.7T? The proper plus one would call for 45 series tires, Will the extra diameter be a problem?

all depends on the width of the tire...

you can go with a narrower tire on a 50 series that will make the overall diameter equal to a, say, 225/45 tire.
