Which PURE snow tire
ok fellow listers, do I want the Hakka 1's or the Gislaved Nordfrosts? I've owned the Hakka's previously, I just wanted to know the general opinions on the Hakka's vs the Gislaved's.

They are pretty comparable.
I think the Hak 1's are a little better on ice/heavy snow. BTW I have a set of 4 205/55-16 Hak 1's in my garage in Socal. They are 2 yrs old with plenty of tread left. My job probably won't be having me in a snowy area for the next 4-5 years, so if you need a set, let me know.

Hakka Q?
My understanding from Nokia(n) is that the 1 is the tire of choice if you use studs. If not, they say you get more performance from the Q's.
I've had the older Hakka 09's and 10's, and NRW's. I'll probably put 16" Q's on my S4 this winter, to replace my Pirelli 210A's from last winter.

I've had both...
Gislaved - used to be great 10 years ago. IMO, they have not kept up with R&D and they have been left behind. I never had the Nordfrosts - the last set I had was about seven years ago and Got stuck in my Scirocco in a 5" drift ;-(
Hakk1s - I swear by these. I've run them on my A4 for two winters and absolutely love them. Noise is not great and there ARE better ice tires - but these babies were designed for plowing through 5"+ snow drifts...
Hakk Q - I put these on my wife's car last year after my local dealer said they were the latest greatest from Nokian. Well... they seem to utilize all the latest technology (siping, softer compound) but I don't love them. Much more squirmy than the Hakk 1s and I did not feel that they performed a lot better than the 1s. My wife's car is FWd - so, in fairness, it isn't a good comparison.
Now, with that said, b/c I live in southern CT, the Hak 1s are not the ideal winter tire for me. We have more ice and packed snow - so the Dunlop Winter Sport M2 or the Michelin Artic Alpin might be better for me. Although I drive up to Syracuse a few time each winter and that's is where the Hakk 1s shine!
Hope this helps,
Chris
