Default question forGary

hi there Gary

can i fit tire size 215/60/16 or 205/60/16 on my 1996 A4 1.8 non-turbo? the springs and shocks are stock, non lowered with 16inch stock sport rims. i just want a bit more comfort than the recommended and currrent 205/55/16 size, as well as closing the ugly gap between the tires and the wheel arch.
thanks very much.

Default Both 215/60R16 and 205/60R16 are pretty tall for a B5

The clearance I'm concerned about is with the inside front suspension, as its pretty tight up there. I haven't heard of anyone getting this tall of a tire to fit without rubbing unfortunately.

Default you're on non-sport suspension and you still need more comfort??

What tire model do you have? Maybe instead of changing the diameter, look for a different type of tire - one with softer sidewalls.

Default Have you had your shocks checked out?

Blown shocks can certainly make for a uncomfortable ride. Stock shocks on a '96 model is more than likely to have very worn shocks.

Default It may be a better idea to find someone with 15s and trade wheels.

size would then be 205/60/15

Default Re: Both 215/60R16 and 205/60R16 are pretty tall for a B5

thanks very much Gary and all who replied...
i guess i should stick to 205/55/16 or 215/55/16 then. my shocks are new(replaced). the gap between the tires and the arch are kind of big(as in stock form) and thats why i thought there would be a bit of room.
i will definitely re-check on the psi i am using, and maybe go for softer tires. i am looking at the yokos AVS db 500, size 215/55/16.
oh yeah, by the way i live in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia where some roads are kind of bumpy, AND my other ride is a jaguar
i will get back to u guys once i decide on the tires. thanks !
