Default Question for gary@tirerack

Gary,

I need some wheels/tires for track use on a B7 RS4. Not R compound but more like BFG KDW2 shaved to 4/32". Wheels/tires in stock 19" sizes. I did a quick look on the TireRack site and it didn't offer up the KDW2 for the RS4. Did I not look far enough? Or do you have a recommendation for an alternative?

Thanks.

While the KDW2 isn't available in that size, I'd consider the Bridgestone RE-11 as a superior option in that 255/35R19 size for this type of use. A good lower cost option that would equal the KDW2 worth considering is the Sumitomo HTRZIII.

Thanks, Gary. I'll be giving you a call when I get ready to order.

Do you know how loudly an RS4 complains about the absense of TPS units in the tires? If it only beeps once and then flashes I am okay without them (since these won't be my daily driver shoes).

I'm not sure on that one; hopefully someone else chimes in. Alternately you could reduce one tire by 10-15 psi and drive slowly in a parking lot or neighborhood setting to see what the effect may be.

Gary,

Thanks for the great service. The ASA wheels and RE-11 arrived quickly and in perfect condition.

I put them on and drove the car around a while. I can tell you that the TPS warning is wholly obnoxious. It bleeped out a loud 1500 Hz squawk that about sent me off the road. (I hadn't done the Wheel Change thing via the menu yet.) So I'm glad I got the sensors.

Another question for you: What is the diameter/thread for the RS4's wheel bolts? I am going to purchase a Wheel Hangar to aid in putting tires on the car and want to make sure I purchase the right one.

Thanks again,

Larry

I'm listing the head sizes as 17mm and the bolts themselves as 14X1.5.

Hope that helps!

Good info on the TPMS warning too, thanks.
