Default Questions re: winter tires for S4

1. I live in New England, where we get quite a bit of snow. But, after it is plowed, I am driving on dry roads until the next snow storm. Given that, am I better off buying Winter Tires or All Season tires to use during the winter time?

2. Should I buy a second set of wheels for the winter tires or can I have them mounted on the stock rims? I would like to minimize the cost of owning two sets of tires, so I don't want to shell out $800 for new rims. But, I have heard that it is not a good idea to keep mounting and unmounting tires on the same set of rims. Is that true? What problems does it cause the tires?

Default What you heard is correct - Do not mount and remount tires.

Every time someone touches your wheel you run the risk of sctratches and qouges. The cost of mounting and balancing will quickly add up to the cost of a set of rims.

Either get the allseason SP5000s or get a set of snows mounted on new rims. call Tire Rack or go to their web-site and do some reseach. Infact if you spend some time scrolling down you will learn a lot about what to do.

Search is working now.

Default you can stretch tire bead wire also

I don't know if it is big problem, but you can stretch/damage tire bead wire also when mounting.

Get a set of cheap rims, it's worth it.
