Please don't recommend Nokian or Vredestein because, unfortunately, they don't make the size.
Choices are a Blizzak LM25, Dunlop Winter Sport M3 or Michelin Arctic Alpin. Thoughts?

I want real snow tires. Admittedly, it's a lot closer to a snow tire than any other all-season but these will only be used in the winter.

As it is, most people use them strictly as winter tires. In Europe, they're sold as winter tires. My experience: they handled snow better than my dedicated winter Pilot Alpins.
If I had to choose between the WR and all the other tires you mentioned, I'd still choose WR.

The tread pattern is very snow tire like but I worry about the compound if it's meant for warm weather also. I had Vredestein Wintracs on my A4 but I just got rid of that. These are for a Subie Legacy GT and 17" are the smallest rims that fit on it.

I ran their predecessor (NRW) as a dedicated winter, and the WRs are better in every respect over the NRW. I have my wife's subie on WRs all year long.
Now if you REALLY want some great snow and ice traction, you could always do the Nokian RSi in 205/50/17 if your wheels are between (and including) 5.5" and 7.5" width.
I'd say the weakest point of the WR is glare ice.. While it still does well, and better than most "high performance" winter tires (as the ones you mentioned in original post), they can't match the RSi on the ice. The RSi's downside will be the dry pavement (but much better than the blizzak Q rated tires, a-la WS50, MZ01, MZ02, etc)
I'm going to go with RSis as my next set, just to have the experience.. I may switch back to WR after those wear out, since I was so happy with the WR (wife's subie in the winter is awesome).

I had some on my b5 and loved them. they work excellent and they're nice because they work really good in the dry / wet as well.
I thought I read somewhere that they were actually a snow / winter tire, but since they have such a long tread life - a lot of people use them as an all season.
