Default S-03

Well, it's becoming obvious to me why the S-03 may very
well rock despite the move to what at first looks like a more
conventional tread pattern...

Apparently Bridgestone is now using a non-silica ingredient
they call "particle z" in their compound that they claim gives
better wet grip than traditional silica compounds. I am very
interested to see how this new compound pans out in real-
world wet testing. The PZero Rosso uses aramid in their new
compound, but that's more for thermal reasons that give an
indirect grip benefit rather than direct use of grippier "stuff".

Second thing... apparently the insides of the channels and
tread blocks have some sort of texture that aids in the kind
of water evacuation that big angled directional sipes and voids
are used for ... which may explain the lack of voids that empty
directly to the sidewall ... if they can get water away from the
contact patch using this "sharkskin" texture, they don't need a
huge conflagration of massive voids and sipes and whatever.

Big news seems to be an even more comfortable ultra-high
performance tire though. Or so says the review I've linked...

Okay Bridgestone, you win... *now* my interest is piqued.

http://competitionpress.com/news/carnewstory.mv?story=na12004nb2049nc60642</a

Please compare it to the BFG KD and the 02.

I'd think they'd likely compare it to the Pilot Sport, S-02PP, and
maybe the KDW or SP9000 for a good cross-section of the name
brand wet-weather performers... not sure they'd bother comparing
it to the KD or similar big-tread-block dry-weather tires.
