A/S M+S Tire recomm: Good sidelip protection
I am currently using all seasons Falken Ziex ZE-512's 225/45/17. They lasted me 40k miles. Awesome value for the price I paid. The thick sidelip protection saved my rims many a times.
I need new replacements and looking for a tire that has the similar thick sidelip protection on the Falkens.
Would like to try either brands for M+S - A/S Yokohama, Kumho or Sumitomo etc., in a similar price range (<$100) and they have to be quiet as well.
Thanks for your advice.

Heard the Avon Tech 550s are great
The Pirelli P-Zero Nero M&S, the ones I have, are also terrific in many ways, almost the calibre of some summer maximum performance tires. Whisper quiet, too, even on 20-inch rims in a 35-series profile. I'm sure you have, but if not, check out the Tire Rack comparisons of all-season tires to see what they say about both.

Re: why not get the Falkens again? (well....)
Ok, I do like the Falkens for longevity and price, but one of my tires has developed a "bubble". Dunno why, and I've never bumped into any curbs. I am sure this is only a once off.
The other thing which is consistent with others is that after 50% thread wear, the snow traction deteriorates considerably. I've experienced this first-hand up in Lake Tahoe during winter.
If I had no other choice, I'll buy them Falkens again. Just looking at other alternatives.
I really like the price and the thick lip rim protection of the Falkens.

I have Conti extreme contacts on a RWD BMW
they were great the first year in the snow but after the tread wore down (still more then 1/2 tread left) they were horrible in the snow - still great in the summer and rain though.
If you never hit a curb to get that bubble, how did the Falkin save you rim??

Bubble appeared on the front passenger side tire ... (m)
of the car. The ones that I bump on the curb usually is the rear driver side passenger tire. Almost always whilst parking.
Upon searching AW, I found a few Falken owners experiencing the exact same thing! Some people even have 2 bubbles on the same tire!
Falkens are great for their value, and I would still buy them again, since I drive pretty conservatively.
Thanks for your tips on the Conti usage.

Thanks for the tip on the Avons. I live in the SF Bay Area and don't hear of this brand much at all.
Do they have the thick sidelip rim protection ?
Thanks.
