Default snow tire questions?

I am planning on going with snow tires for the winter (currently have 040's) and am planning on mounting them on my current 17" 5 spoke wheel. Everyone says you should minus 1 on the size but I would like to use my factory rims for the winter and get new ones in the spring. (BBS RKII's or AEZ Bimos) I live on Long Island and it doesn't snow that mutch and I spent my last three winters living a 100 feet from lake ontario and waking up with snow up to my knees everyday. I never had any problems in my A4 and Jetta glx. So i need advice will I be ok with the 17" rim and snows. Thanks Eric
also does anyone know the approxomite weights of the RKII's, Bimos, and 2 piece projectzo's?

Default Here's what I think...

Wider snow tires generally should do very well. The narrower tires you can get for 16" rims really hold a benefit when cruising through deep snow or slush. I doubt you'll have to worry about deep snow very often in Long Island. Slush ,on the other hand, may become an issue. The light weight of the TT will make things a bit worse, than say, a heavier S4 with similar wheels.

On my last car (Integra), I had snows on it. The car gripped very well in foul weather. I didn't have any problems with 6 inches of snow, however with 3 inches of slush, my car started to "slush-o-plane" quite a bit. The car didn't have enough weight to press through the slush, and the tires were not the more ideal -1 size.
