So is my alignment bad?

Hey all... I'm supposed to drive 2 hours to the nearest dealer today to get my car's alignment checked. I was told by the tire guy that my tires may have gone bad because my alignment was off. So, before I get new tires on Saturday, I'm going to get the alignment checked/fixed. My question is, is this really necessary? The car doesn't pull one way or the other at all, and I think the tires are bad because I had them underinflated for a very long time. Any suggestions? I'd rather not drive 4 hours round trip on my day off for nothing...
Also, if I do need it checked, would it be bad for the new tires if I waited a week or so?

if your tires were underinflated the outer edges of the tires would be worn - not the center.
It is also better to have the alignment done at the same time - two weeks may be too long if it is over 25 miles. You could put some wear patterns on the tires that will cause them to be noisy.
