Default Some say yes and others no???

I've asked several times before and get about a 50-50 split on whether a 235/45/17 tire on a 8" wide wheel will rub at all or not on a stock suspension 2001 A4 1.8T Quattro. Then to make things tougher, how about the same tires on a slightly lowered set-up, say with Eibach/Bilsteins?

Default might depend on the offset of the wheel.

smaller offsets will push the wheel/tire out and therefore increase the chance of rubbing.

Default There are a few different things that can get "rubbed" though, right? (more)

A small offset might cause you to rub the fender, but a large offset might cause rubbing inside the wheelwell or suspension. And then there's always the caliper rubbing situation due to a wheel with a thick outer rim.

ModDeprived, maybe you shouls search the forum for people who have the wheel/suspension setup you are looking at. If that doesn't work, at least find someone who has the same suspension setup and a wheel with the same dimensions as the ones you are interested in.

Default It will rub. Where and how bad are the questions

With an offset much above 35mm on 8" wheels ou will be VERY close to the suspension in front and rear.

With an offset at or below 35mm you will start to have problems in front with the wheel wel lips and liners depending on your springs, roads and driving habits. The interference will be when turning while the suspension is compressed.

Default true.

i was going for the more common tire-to-fender contact.

Default Agree with WClark.. No way for you to know in advance

Due to build variances on your car, the tire profil, the fitment of your wjheels.

If you want to push the size envelope then you should plan on "if I need to roll lip, then I will do it".

If not then go with the 225/45s & start driving

Call me if I can help!
