Do special "split fire, platinum tipped, etc." spark plugs do anything for performance? It could be the placibo effect but my first car was an Escort and I replaced the stock spark plugs with Split Fires when they first came out and the car seemed much smoother at idle and off the line response seemed just a tad improved. What do you all think/know? Am I crazy?

I like to see hard data before I endorse any product or use it myself. I know after experimenting with lots of spark plugs back in the days before trasistor ignitions - I found NGK to be the best for my 73' 2002tii.
With the advent of trasistor ignition - most plugs now will fire in any condition. I suspect any differences are minor. I would also expect that if any plug was superior - it would be picked up by the car mfrs right away.
Unless I see some unbiased testing - I will stay with NGK
