Steering edge and tire clearance

Steering edge and tire clearance
This being my first Audi, I need to know the least amount of distance between the inside of tire and the steering arm edge(probably wrong term) that is allowable. Does any part of the steering flex or move at the edge inside the wheel-well by the tire so it could rub the inside of the tire?
I just put new tires (205/55/16) on 16x7.5 wheels on a '97 Cabriolet and tire is very close to steering part. Appreciate any answers before I might ruin new tires.

Some thoughts...
First, I am NOT an expert here...
Chances are that arm you mention moves up and down with the wheel, so that your clearance would be relatively constant.
A 1/2" or so should be okay. To check to see if that clearance will change as the wheel moves, jack up on of the front wheels and watch that area to see if clearance increases as you remove the load from the wheel.
