Default Studded Tires

Studs offer maximum snow/ice traction. If you plan on doing some serious mountain and or backroad winter driving, they will provide you with the best performance.
On the other hand, they are noisy and adversely affect dry performance. They are also illegal in some places or have restrictions on months that you can use them.

Studs really give you traction on the worst possible conditions: ICE.
On snow the difference is not that big, but when you hit ice on wheels without studs ... then you'll miss them.
Marko Litmanen
A3 1.8T Wett 1.0 K&N Nokian Hakkapeliitta 1 WITH STUDS
