Default Sumitomo HTR Z III vs Kumho SPT vs General Exclaim

Looking for a set of new summers in 225/45/17 (already have a 16" winter set). Comfort and quiet are as important as ultimate wet and dry grip. Overall wear is important as well. Finally, I'd like to stay under $100/tire. Any other suggestions or nuggets of wisdom out there?

Default It sounds like you're asking for a tire that does everything well.

All tires sacrifice SOMETHING.
I'd say if performance is most importand, go Sumi.
All-weather performance, go General.
SPTs are just good at everything except snow, but not outstanding in anything.

Default Which one is quietest?

That's a large factor. Ultimate dry grip isn't the goal here, especially under for $100.

I would guess either the Kumho or General. Not sure, but I'd lean towards Kumho. Ask Gary.

Not sure, as I rarely deal with that. I certainly haven't had any PROBLEMS with it.

Default I've been very pleased with the Sumitomo HTR Z III

I'm not a track guy but I do like to push it a little on the off ramps and on quiet nights through the neighborhood. So far, I've been very pleased with the new HTR Z III.

They seem to be quiet but then I just came off my winter tires so anything will be quieter.

For wear, I've not found anyone who has put 20k or more miles on these, so we won't know for a another 6 months to a year.

You can't beat the price.

Default Ugh....

"I do like to push it a little...through the neighborhood."
Sheesh, I'm glad I'm not your neighbor. Can't you find a safer place than a residential area?

I don't live in the city... my area can go 1+ hours without a person passing by.
