Default Tire "cables"

I posted this in my regional forum too but thought it might get a few more answers in here.

alright. I ordered a set of snow tires from tirerack.com and they're coming in tomorrow. Problem is that it snowed very hard here (steamboat springs, co) the past two days and the roads will be icy for quite a while to come. As it stands right now my car (02 a4 1.8Tq) is absolutely immobile with slicked out summer tires on it. I'm not even going to try and move it out of my driveway the way it is right now.

I need to get down to the shop tomorrow in order to have my new tires installed. It's only about four miles but there is no way my car will make it without some form of added traction.

I can get pick up a set of tire cables at wal-mart for about $25 and they should provide more than enough traction to get me down to the shop. Problem is i'm worried they might damage my car. I've got the sport package with 245/45/17s and i'm not sure that there is enough clearance. Messing up the suspension is not an option here, I love my car too much. Also I here chains or cables should not be used with quattro, but again i'm only going about four miles so I don't know.

Four miles, thats it. After that i'll either sell the cables, give them away, or just toss them. Can anybody help me out here?

Get a jack and 4 jackstands. Take the wheels/tires off and bring them to the shop.
