Look to purchase from Tire Rack in the $150 - $190 range. Summer Tires 235/40/18s.
Looking for decent mileage / low road noise combined with good performance.
Any alternatives to /comments about /experience with these tire would be appreciated.
Thanks.

I was in a similar situation a few weeks back. I was mainly after low noise and comfortable ride, but still decent performance.
Finally decided on CSC2.
My initial plan was to get SP9000, but since it may be their last year of production, I didn't want to have problems if lets say next year I need to buy an extra tire for one reason or another.
As far as GS-D3, I know they're great performers, but low noise is not their virtue, at least from all the reviews and comparisons I've read.
Unfortunately I can't give you any feedback on the CSC2 since I won't be putting them on the car for at least another month (we still have snow on the ground here).

Just got 245/40/17" Conti SC2 replacing Dunlop's...
They are stiffer than the old ones, of course, and because they are wider and have plenty of continuous bands they tend to follow grooves and are a bit noisy, but when it comes down to performance, wow! They can get as much as you can throw at it. I feel the car needs a lot more power now, to play with those babies. Dry performance is outstanding, got a record wet February around here and never felt I was in deep s**t no matter how hard I drove. What I notice is that the tires splash a lot more water to the sides and, while driving through 3" sheets of standing water, onto the windshield! I guess that's because they are a bit too wide. I considered goodyear's but they are hard to come by around here and I got a nice deals with 17" OZ's. Highly recommend it if the enfasis is on performance, but a bit stiff, some road noise and can't comment on mileage - mine are 2 month old.

stiff??
I sure hope they're not stiff. I bought them thinking they'll be just the opposite actually, compared to my previous Bridgestone S-03s.
Are you running to much air in them by any chance?
Also, what load and speed rating are yours? Do they have the XL rating, which would make them stiffer than standard-rated versions?
