Default Tire question for 1998 A6 with 16" wheels.

Hi, I have an 1998 A6 with the 16" wheels and the stock tire size for this is the 205/55/16. I am in need of new tires and was looking primarily at the BfGoodrich KDWS (or possibly the KDW, but I hear these are a bit more noisy) or the Bridgestone potenza re950.

My question is will a 225/50/16 clear the front and rear suspension components (stock ride heght, not lowered) or is it better to get the 205/55/16 size? When I feel for the front clearance there doesn't seem to be much. Will tire pressure be key in prevent the tire and suspension components from touching (in 225/50/16 size)?

Also, would I have to worry about wheel damage, bent wheels that is, on the 225/50/16 size due to the reduced and stiffer sidewall size, or is this only on aftermarket wheels?

The 50 series tire and clearance issue have been a major deciding factor in getting new tires. Any help or input would be much appreciated.
Oh, and one last question, what oem audi 17" wheels will fit the A6? Its the 2.8 frontrak, 1998, dont know the offset for this though. Thanks once again.

225/50 will fit fine. Many A4 have run this size on the stock 16x7 wheels. Should be no risk of wheel damage, since it's virtually the same rolling diameter as stock (just a hair less).

As far as 17" OEM wheels go, the '01 A4 quattro sport pkg 9-spoke wheels will fit, as well as the S4 Avus wheels. The 17" wheels from the A6 4.2 may fit, but will be close to the edge of the fender since they are a wider wheel. Unless you can pick up some used OEM 17s, you might want to check out the aftermarket selections; unless you want to stick with the OEM look, of course.

Thanks a whole bunch for the answers.
Will the 2002 A4 sportpackage 17" wheels fit? These look really nice in my opinion. And are there pics of the '01 nine spoke? What brand tire would you reccomend?
Thanks once again.

Clearance is tighter on the A4 than on A6. You will be fine for A6.

See the link below for my previous thread (in regards to using on A4)

Hope this helps!<ul><li><a href="https://forums.audiworld.com/wheel/msgs/35029.phtml">https://forums.audiworld.com/wheel/msgs/35029.phtml</a</li></ul>

Just check the offset/width!! OEM for your car is 45ET and 7" wide.
