Does anyone have any information regarding the pros and cons of this procedure? I'd search the archives first if the search engine were working but since its not I'll just throw the question out there.
For those of you unfamiliar with this procedure here is a link from a tire vendor with a quick explanation: Tire Siping
Sean
97 1.8Tqm
99.5 1.8Tqm

Sean's A4 Page

If you have some all season tires and you want to increase ice traction, this might be a good idea. As has been pointed out, snow tires already have a lot of sipes.
For dry conditions this has to result in a lot of extra tread squirm. This will cause your tires to run hotter which is generally not a good idea. I would bet that a set of siped tires would chunk pretty badly if you took them on the track. It probably doesn't help steering feel either. There is a reason why high performance tires have big solid tread blocks and why slicks have no tread (F1 excluded).
Driving on snow tires in the dry is no fun!
