Trying to get the straight dope on tires and AWD.
I recently lost a tire to road hazard and need to figure out the best configuration. These tires were all installed at the same time, here are the most recent tread depths
Goodyear Eagle GTs 2005 S4 Cab. I live in SF, so I'm never driving in snow / wet conditions
My front tires are 6/32
my rears are 9/32
I suspect the difference in wear is from city driving and that heavy engine upfront.
Does it make sense to rotate the fresh(er) rears to the front so they wear down to better match the other tires so the whole set lasts longer? The guy at the local shop said I should replace the fronts as soon as possible. I wanted to get a double / triple opinion on that.
My priorities are 1) not damaging the car / transmission 2) saving money 3) performance

Tires with more tread depth go in the rear.
