basically, my wheels are currently 18"7.5" with ET38, and i want them to be more "flush". rears especially.
i STFA and now my head hurts. i drew diagrams and my eyes hurt.
ET35 for 8" rim seems optimal. no data for 7.5" though, and with a .5" narrower wheel, this would also affect the optimal offset, correct? am i right to assume the offset should be around ET40? (35mm + half the wheel width increase of 6mm)
also, does adding spacers INCREASE or DECREASE the ET # when determining total offset?
i am guessing i should try 5mm spacers up front, and 8mm spacers in the rear.
thanks to any who help.

any help on figuring optimal offset for 18"x7.5" wheels on an A4 would be nice.

There is really no perfect number for offset in this case as it sounds like you're simply trying to deal with the appearance issue. We don't use spacers often so unfortunately I have little experience with their usage. I do know that you should be sure they're hubcentric and that you find longer bolts to go with them.

An 18x8 ET35 sticks out 66.6mm from the hub.
An 18x7.5 ET38 sticks out 57.3mm from the hub.
So ideally you'd want a 9mm, which would stick out the same as the 18x8ET35. Probably safe with an 8mm for the achieved look.
Hope that helps, let me konw if you have any questions.

so maybe 8mm front and 10mm rear would give a good agressive stance with minimal concern for rubbing up front?
rears look like they need to come out more than the fronts.
who knew figuring something like this could take so much effort ;-)
