Wheel gurus: Are my offset calculations correct?

The stock 18x8" wheels (on a TT) are offset 33mm, and I'm looking at a set that are 8.5" wide with 35mm offset. Is the correct calculation that the outer bead will stick out from the car 4.35mm (vs. stock), and the inner bead will come in towards the car 8.35mm (vs. stock)?
My logic: 0.5" is 12.7mm, so add 6.35mm to the width from the center line traveling out (to the outside bead, and to the inside bead). But since the offset has increased by 2mm, then the wheel will "come back in" towards the car by an additional 2mm.
Just trying to determine if the wheels will fit, and how wide I can go with the tire.
