will 225/60/16 tires & wheels fit on my old 200
Can someone tell me if 225/60/16 tires & wheels will fit my old 1990 200?
This car eats tires. I've been tld the steering rack is in need of replacement and an allignment won't do any good. It has 300,000 miles and don't think a repair is practicle.
These tires & wheels are available for less than just new tires for my 15" stock wheels.
Any other suggestions?

Likely a problem, but also, on what rims?...
The critical clearance issue from my old C3 (1985 5000) and C4 (1996 A6) experiences is the stamped steering arm that juts out from the hub/steering knuckle assembly. (They finally offed that design with the C5 that gave more room for wide wheel fitments). You can see it just on the top of the tire when you look in to the fender area in front. I ran up to 225's on the C3 with the 5 spoke 16x7 wheels, but that was getting pretty close on that clearance. And as I recall that was with 50 series to maintain the stock overall diameter at right around 25". A 60 series is going to increase that diameter too, to something like 26.6". From my memory that 0.8" in radius increase is likely to run afoul of that steering arm.
This is offset dependent too. If you are talking a factory wheel like those 5 spokers in about a 45mm offset, I doubt that will help. Maybe with a bit less offset it might fly, but on those cars there isn't a lot of extra room under the fenders to bump the wheel outward with less offset.

So, right general offset but...
if it is more than a 7" rim it will be getting tight to start.
The rim might fly, but my guess from field experience is at the tire height you are looking at, it is likely to have an interference problem w/ the suspension. That tire you are looking at is significantly bigger in diameter than stock for the 5000/100/200/A6 class; it's an A8 type size, which fundamentally is bigger in diameter, independent of the choice of rim.
