will standard allroad tires work in snow?

Pretty decent traction, braking is not the best but still pretty good. I'd rate them about an 8 of 10 for snow performance. Considering all the things they are supposed to do (offroad, high speeds, snow, be reasonably quiet) they have made a pretty cool tire. They handled this stuff pretty well and considering that the roads around here get plowed fairly quickly, I won't be driving in this stuff very often. I'm generally more worried about the other idiots out there!!!
If you are spending the majority of your time driving in deep snow or on snowpacked roads, I'd recommend getting dedicated snow tires. If you hit the deep stuff occasionally, the priellis work just fine, just slow down and anticipate a longer braking disctance.

I went with the Pirelli Winter 210 Assimetrico's in the stock size 225/55/17 (when they were on sale for $99 each) and frankly did not notice too much of a difference when we had our heavy, wet slushy snowfall a couple of weeks ago. I would have gone with a 16 inch and new wheels for better snow/ice traction but I wanted to keep the standard wheels (I don't have the double spokes) for winter use, as I later plan on buying 18 inch wheels with a higher performance summer tire. The Assimetrico's do have a more aggressive winter tread design, with presumably a softer tread compound, so they should perform better than the stock allroad tires. They were really good accelerating in a straight line when in 6-8 inches of the slushy crap but cornering and braking were not as good as I had hoped. I think it was a case of having had some freezing rain before the snow started to stick, plus it was the first real snow of the season, so the roads were extra slick. I'm expecting better performance next time when we have a more normal snowfall.
