My just ordered Audi A6 premium plus comes with 245/45/x18 wheels. However the premium comes with 17" 225/55x17. I have asked the dealer if the brakes & calipers are the same on the premium and premium plus , and he said yes. I now plan to buy winter tires and 17" wheels, so I can fit 225/55x17 winter tires on the car. I believe the ET is 39 for both OEM rims. How wide are the OEM rims? 7,7.5.8,8.5? I am learning about offset, the offset I need depends on the width of the rims I buy. Does using rings to change offset affect safety or performance? I believe the hub calls for 66.56 on the new wheel hub as well. The diameter of the 18" 245/45x18 tire is almost exactly the same as the 17" 225/55,(26.7") so there will be little effect on odometer. The revs/mile 756 vs 754 is also almost equal.
What is the offset and width of the OEM 17& 18 rims? This info is not available from Audi specifications for the car.
Thanks

Go 6 spoke all else being equal. If you live where there is a decent amount of snow, at some point will be needing to clear snow out of the inside of the rims. This typically happens when driving in deep and steep conditions where the car may slide to the side forcing snow into the inside. I have had snow pack in and then melt from the brake heat, causing the wheel to be wildly unbalanced when the snow melts and refreezes at the bottom of the rim. Being able to get something in to clear is a whole lot easier than taking of the wheel. I run 5 spoke wheels for this reason.
