Audi A4 B7: How to Replace Battery

Without the battery, your Audi A4 isn't going anywhere. Learn how to replace the battery here.

This article applies to the Audi A4 B7 (1994-2008).

The battery is like the soul to your Audi A4. It gives the current to your other components to get the car to start. Without the battery, your car will not be breathing. Sometimes your battery dies, and all you need to do is charge it, then get back to your normal driving routine. However, the battery isn't designed to live forever, and overtime, it goes bad and needs replacement. This guide will show you exactly how to remove your old battery, then install your new one. Materials Needed

  • Wrench
  • Allen key
  • New battery

Step 1 – Remove weatherstripping

Open the hood, then pull off the weatherstripping that's in front of the battery. Remove the plastic trim piece next to the battery, right in front of the driver side.

Step 2 – Remove battery terminals

Remove the battery terminals using your wrench. Start with the negative (black) terminal, then the positive one.

Step 3 – Remove rubber piece

Remove the rubber piece in front of the battery. It is held in place by three clamps, you can just pull it up to remove.

Step 4 – Remove the battery

Before removing the battery, use your Allen key to loosen the Allen bolt in front of your battery. Once it's loose, pull the battery from the back, and pull it forward and out to remove.

Step 5 – Install new battery

Installation is the reverse of removal.

Install the new battery, front first, then lay the rear down. Tighten the Allen bolt to tighten the battery bracket, then install the rubber piece in front of the battery. Install the positive battery terminal first, then install the negative battery terminal. Finally, install the plastic piece next to the battery, and install the weatherstripping.
