Audi Q5: How to Change Oil

Fresh engine oil is the best way to protect your engine's internal parts. Learn how to replace the engine oil and filter in your Audi Q5 below.

The engine oil is one the most important maintenance items of all in the Audi Q5. The engine oil is in your engine to ensure your internal metal components stay lubricated, which prevents them from wearing excessively. Any damage that happens to the inside of your engine will cost you a fortune, as you will need to take your engine apart and rebuild it. The process of replacing your engine oil is simple, and even though it could get a bit messy, there is no question it has to be done. The recommended oil change intervals is every 5,000 miles. When you replace the oil, you have to replace the oil filter as well. So if you haven't changed your oil in over 5,000 miles, right now is the time.

Materials Needed

  • Torx socket
  • Drain pan
  • Phillips screwdriver
  • Torx screwdriver
  • Oil filter wrench
  • Funnel
  • Oil
  • Oil filter

Step 1 – Remove lower panel

The lower panel, underneath the car, is held in place by seven screws. Remove all five screws with your torx screwdriver, and the two with your Phillips screwdriver, then remove the panel. The Phillips one needs to be turned a few turns to unlock.

Step 2 – Drain old oil

Locate the drain plug on the side of the oil pan, by the driver side. Place your drain pan underneath the drain plug, then remove the drain plug with your torx socket. Let the oil drain completely.

Step 3 – Replace oil filter

Use your oil filter wrench to remove the oil filter. It is located on the front of your engine. Turn it counter-clockwise to remove it, then install the new one. Rub some oil on the new oil filter's rubber gasket to ensure it doesn't get dry and wear out.

Step 4 – Refill engine with oil

Tighten the drain plug, then install the lower panel. Use your funnel to avoid any mess, then fill the engine with oil through the filler hole. The owner's manual recommends 4.9 quarts of oil. Fill the engine with oil, start the engine for 30 seconds, then check the dipstick to check the level.
