S6 is Back and Better Than Ever

When the all-new eighth generation Audi A6 debuted in 2018, an S-line variant was inevitable.  And so, Audi has delivered.  Introducing the 2020 Audi S6, the company's latest sports sedan that delivers performance and everyday usability.

New twin-turbocharged 2.9-liter V6 TFSI engine

At the heart of this new Audi S6 is a new twin-turbocharged 2.9-liter V6 TFSI engine.  According to Audi, the TFSI engine was developed specifically to produce a wider range of torque when combined with an electric compressor, which is powered by a 48V mild hybrid electric vehicle (MHEV) system.  The turbo motor combined with the electric compressor allows the S6 to achieve 444 horsepower and 443 lb-ft of torque.  Looking closer at the MHEV system, you'll find a lithium-ion battery and a belt-driven alternator starter.  During braking, the system can recover up to 12 kW of power and feed it back into the battery.  According to Audi, the MHEV technology enables long coasting phases with the engine deactivated and a start-stop range that begins at 13.7 mph.

Other Performance Features

Per Audi, the 2020 S6 comes standard with a a new eight-speed Tiptronic® automatic transmission.  The company says the new eight-speed is well-suited for the low-end torque of the turbocharged V6, making it possible for the engine to consistently run near its ideal engine speed.  In addition, the S6 is equipped with standard quattro® all-wheel drive offering high-precision handling through active torque distribution to both axles.  In regular driving situations, the system delivers 60 percent of the torque to the rear axle and 40 percent to the front; when needed, power can be redirected to the opposite axle, with up to 70 percent of torque to the front or up to 85 percent to the rear axle.

Updated Exterior

On the outside, the S6 sporty design is enhanced by elements including S-model bumpers, platinum double-slat Singleframe® grille and aluminum exterior side mirrors.  Audi says the alu-optic front splitter creates a feeling of width at the front of the vehicle, connecting the two lower air inlets.  At the rear, the S6 features four S-specific tailpipes and a rear diffuser inlay in black chrome matte.  The S6 comes standard equipped with 20-inch, 5-arm design wheels with summer performance tires or available 21-inch, 5-twin-spoke V-design wheels with summer performance tires.
