An Upgraded A8

For the new S8, Audi decided to add to its flagship luxury sedan, a few subtle styling cues and more power. It now features a twin turbo V8, upgraded brakes, stiffer suspension, and minute visual enhancements. What differentiates it most from the A8 are its dual exhausts, carbon-fiber parts, new side skirts, bumpers, a matte-aluminum trim, and a diamond-stitched interior.

Biggest Takeaway

The biggest takeaway from the new Audi S8 is its potent twin-turbocharged V8 engine. It's a gutsy 4.0-liter that produces 563 horsepower and 590 pound-feet of torque. Audi has also included a 48-volt system for the car's Mild Hybrid technology. It's installed to help with the start-stop functionality. The automaker claims that this improves the vehicle's performance and efficiency.

Predictive Active Suspension

Predictive Active Suspension comes as standard. It can be used to lower or raise any wheel individually for easier movement in different situations. This is especially used for where the front cameras have detected a pothole. The Dynamic Mode prevents the car from rolling while in Comfort Mode, the car leans by up to 5 degrees to help absorb lateral pressures. All-wheel steering, sport differential, and quattro all-wheel-drive improve the S8's movement at both high and low speeds.

Interior

There's a differentiating upper inlay made out of Carbon Vector to create an eye-catching 3D effect. The seats are diamond-stitched and embroidered with S Badges to match the interior aluminum trim. Buyers get multiple screens that control the audio, connectivity, climate, and navigation. The front seats feature cooling, massage, and heating as standard. Audi claims that there are no less than 6 cameras, 5 radars, 12 ultrasound sensors and a laser scanner in the S8. Driver-assist technologies such as lane-keep assist and adaptive cruise control are also available.

Similar Comfort Level

Despite all the upgrades, Audi claims that the level of comfort in the new S8 remains unchanged from its previous version. Audi's 10-piston brake calipers come as standard but, buyers can opt for carbon-ceramic brakes if they wish. Audi claims that the latter weighs 21 pounds less compared to iron discs.
