1. RS Badging

The RS badge represents unique, performance Audis, and although it isn't offered on every Audi model, when it is, you can bet it is something special. The RS initials stand for Renn Sport, which is German for Racing Sport. Not only are the RS cars faster and more powerful, they are typically the top of the line with all of the best features and trimmings too.

2. RS Interior

An Audi with the "S" badge has a sporty, but luxurious interior, however, the RS focuses more on actual track performance. An RS model may not be as luxurious as the S, it is more practical. Some of the RS models feature lightweight sport seats, and roll-up windows for the rear doors to save weight and increase performance.

3. Halo Vehicles

Audis with the RS badges are called halo cars, meaning they float above the rest of the lineup, and draw people to the dealer like moths to a flame. All of the RS badged Audis pioneer the latest and most advanced technologies Audi is coming up with, and often feature things you won't get on a regular Audi for several years to come.

4. Neckarsulm Factory

The RS cars are only available for limited markets and only for a limited times. Nearly every RS model has been built in a high performance factory by Audi AG's private tuning organization, which is called Audi Sport GmbH, which is based in their Neckarsulm factory.

5. RS Competitors

The RS competitors are considered the BMW-M and the Mercedes-AMG, which are similar in track and sport dedication. For an American competitor, look to the V series cars from Cadillac. But, of course, almost none of the competition has the Quattro all-wheel drive system Audi does.

6. RS Original Production Policy

When Audi first introduced the RS options to their cars, they vowed to only make one model at a time, so they could concentrate on that one car. Now they have increased their abilities and can make more than one line, if the market demands it.

7. The First RS

The Audi S made its first appearance in 1990, but it wasn't for another four years until the RS made its debut. The very first Audi to hold the RS badge, oddly enough, was an Audi RS 2 Avant in 1994. That little compact sport wagon is the genesis of the entire RS program.

8. RS Audi Models

There have been quite a few RS cars over the years. The 2000 Audi RS4 Avant was the next model offered with this badge, then the 2002 RS6 Avant and sedan, the 2006 RS4 sedan, and the 2008 RS6 sedan. After the Porsche Cayman was introduced, the 2009 Audi TT RS was the response. In 2010, the RS5 was on the market, and in the same year, the RS3 was also offered. The RS badge was seen on a Q3 SUV concept.
