Audi Takes the Roof Off its 2020 A5 Cabriolet

A brilliant soft-top silhouette

Audi's A5 cabriolets are some of the most handsome soft-top luxury vehicles around. Perfectly executed proportions make the vehicle look great, with the roof in place or retracted. And for the 2020 model year, Audi has added an array of small upgrades to this superb premium sun-seeking luxury car.

Sharper at the front

Audi's single-frame grille is its major anchor design detail at the moment. For the 2020 A5 Cabrio, Audi has enhanced the size of its grille, by stretching it into a flatter and broader facade across the face. Between the grille and hood shut line, are vent slits which pay homage to the original Ur-Quattro rally cars. Those racers established Audi's reputation, way back in 1984 as a performance contender. Matrix LED headlights with laser illumination intensity are optional if you'd like a light up the night a little brighter than normal.

Smooth operator - with speed in reserve

The A5 might be a fantastically stylish beachfront cruiser, with an unmatched appeal, but that does not diminish its driver appeal. Audi is offering two engine options with the 2020 A5 Cabrio. The first of these, is a 2-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, boasting 241hp and 273 lb-ft. If you require more output than that, there is a 3-liter V6, also turbocharged, good for 349hp and 369 lb-ft of torque.

It works well - even when it is snowy, instead of sunny

To guarantee terrific all-weather traction (when it is snowing or rainy) the A5 Cabrio uses Audi's vaunted quattro all-wheel-drive system. Gearboxes are also impeccably calibrated to the purpose. The four-cylinder A5 Cabrio drives through a seven-speed dual-clutch system, whilst the V6 powered version has an eight-speed automatic.

A flood of digitization

The new A5 Cabrio's interior is a design masterpiece, with the driver's field of view served information via a high-definition 12.3-inch digital display. Atop the center stack is a 10.1-inch MMI touchscreen infotainment system. Audi's engineers have also enhanced the voice command software, to better understand what you want the car's infotainment systems to do. Touchscreen functionality has effectively replaced most buttons inside the cabin.

Smart inside - in more ways than one

Those perfectly padded, ergonomically designed front seats are just as comfortable as they look. Beyond the brilliantly comfy seats, Audi has also made the A5 Cabrio's interior a more contemporary place to be. There is a Wi-Fi hotspot and intuitive SatNav which recognizes your individual preferences. Audi has even developed a Smartphone app for the new A5, which you can use, to enable your phone to lock, unlock, and start the A5 Cabrio.

Not a two plus two

Audi's A5 is a true four-seater cabriolet, with rear occupants never feeling neglected in terms of comfort. The aft deck area is where that soft-top retracts to when not in use, turning the A5 Cabrio into an open-top car. Audi says that you can trigger the roof mechanism at speeds of up to 30mph and that its A5 will stow the roof in only 15 seconds.

Designed to look wider from the rear

Audi updated A5 cabriolet also features some restyled rear details. There is now a new diffuser insert and in the corners of the car's bumper, you'll find trapezoidal exhaust ends. Both these slightly revised styling elements help to make the 2020 Cabrio appear wider from the rear, increasing its road presence and sense of occasion when on the move.
