8. Audi A5

U.S. News and World Reports ranks cars from every manufacturer, taking into account performance, general consensus of the motoring press, and reliability ratings. They also factor in safety ratings, and any awards the vehicle has won. You can read an entire breakdown of how they get their rankings on this page, but suffice to say it is thorough. When they finished their calculations for the 2017 model year, these Audi models were ranked at the top of their respective classes.

The sensuously shaped A5 coupe offers spacious, supportive seating and a luxury interior, though the exterior has just two doors. It features all-wheel driving, confidence inspiring  handling, and a standard turbocharged four-cylinder engine that is powerful, if not that great on gas – it gets up to 23mpg in the city and 32 on the highway. In other countries (besides the USA) you can get a TDI in it for better mileage, and for better performance there is a turbo 3.0 liter V6, or in the RS5 a 2.9 liter twin turbo. The A5 retails between $41,200 and $61,100. The A5 scores 8.4 out of 10.
