RSQ E-Tron Plays Animated Spy Car In Newest Will Smith Movie

Audi's latest exotic vehicle isn't one that you'll likely be able to drive now (or ever), but it plays a prominent movie role, at least.

Product Placement

Animated movies are big business these days, routinely raking in millions at the box office. Thus, brands looking to get their product in front of all those eyeballs are wise to team up with makers of said movies for a little old fashioned product placement. Now, Audi is doing just that in the forthcoming blockbuster Spies in Disguise, featuring voice acting by none other than Will Smith

Taking Liberties

Of course, the Audi RSQ E-Tron depicted in the flick is also a fictional creation. However, that doesn't make it any less cool. In fact, this is the very first concept car Audi has ever created exclusively for an animated film. And the fact that it's purely the product of someone's imagination also means that some liberties can be taken with things like performance and capability.

Futuristic Options

The RSQ E-Tron is, of course, fully electric. But it's also fully autonomous, with an automatic drive mode. Just like any good old fashioned spy car. The concept, designed in close cooperation with Blue Sky Studios, also packs an additional boost capability, which is controlled via functions on-demand, as well as visionary design language and futuristic highlights including a hologram speedometer.

Trickle Down?

Could any of that tech show up in a future production Audi vehicle? Well, maybe, at least according to Sven Schuwirth, Vice President of Audi, Digital Business and Customer Experience. "The action-packed super-spy storyline provides us with a creative medium to showcase innovation and technology, and all that is possible with the future of mobility," Schuwirth said.

Christmas Movie

Personally, we could see the benefits of a holographic instrument cluster, at least. But in the meantime, we'll just have to live vicariously through Spies in Disguise. The movie hits theaters on Christmas Day, which seems like a great excuse to get out of the house and away from annoying family members for a little while.

Polar Opposites

According to Blue Sky, the movie is "an animated spy comedy-adventure set in the slick, high-octane, globe-trotting world of international espionage." Smith plays Lance Sterling, a world-renowned super-spy, who works in tandem with scientist Walter Beckett, voiced by Tom Holland. The duo, like any good buddy movie, possesses polar opposite personalities, which creates a rather fun dynamic.

Crowd Pleaser

All of which sounds like a pretty good time, especially if you've got young ones that enjoy these sorts of things. And while they're laughing at the corny jokes every animated movie loves to throw at a younger audience, at least you can scope out a pretty cool Audi concept and dream of what it might mean for the future.
