1. The Newest Addition

The Audi A3 e-tron plug-in hybrid is currently the only electrified ride Audi has to offer, but the e-Tron Sportback may just change that. At the Shanghai Auto Show, Audi introduced their latest concept, with an all electric drivetrain, and Q5 based platform. This is by far the most futuristic car Audi has talked about producing in a while, and the most exciting part is that it may not be that far from production.

2. Fastback Meets Crossover

At first glimpse, the Audi e-tron Sportback looks like a combination of a fastback sports coupe and a crossover SUV. Audi is known for all-wheel drive, so why not an all weather sports coupe, with the extra room of a Sportback roof line? If you remove all logos on this concept, you would still recognize it as an Audi, thanks to its simple clean design, and numerous brand design cues.

3. The Electrifying Heart of the Sportback

At this point, we'd never doubt the performance of Audis, and just because this one is an electric Audi, we know it will still perform at an extremely high level. In response to Tesla's Ludicrous mode, the Sportback gets a boost mode, which allows bursts of up to 496-horsepower, to go from 0 to 62 mph in only 4.5 seconds. All that, and you should be able to go more than 300 miles on a charge.

4. The Purpose of the e-tron Sportback

With Tesla dominating the electric-automobile market despite its high price tags, Audi figured there was plenty of room for left for smaller and lower cost electric luxury sports models. Since the Tesla Model-X sells for over $100K, expect this stylish and similar Audi to come in at least slightly lower in price. The e-tron Sportback

5. When Can We Expect it?

Both VW and Audi are heavily concentrating on electric powered vehicles in the near future, with a more traditional e-tron crossover SUV coming for the 2018 model year. The good news is, we won't have to wait very much longer for this sleek crossover, because Audi said the real version of this concept should be on sale by 2019. Buckle up, Tesla, Audi is coming to give you a run for the money.
