Built for the individual

Audi has introduced a crossover variant of its A1 which is perfect for those fans of the brand who seek differentiation. The new Citycarver is a crossover that is designed specifically for city use, instead of gravel travel.

An A1 with a Q-series face

The Citycarver might not be a true gravel travel vehicle but it does trace an appearance that has some links to Audi's Q-series vehicles. The single-frame grille features intricate shaping and there is a new front bumper design too, which is different from other A1s.

Crossover elements all over

Viewed from the rear three-quarter perspective the Citycarver shows off some new cladding elements on its bumper. Plastic protection around the wheel arches not only preserve the paint finish but also help with some design contrasting. There are triangular cut-outs in the rear bumper also that echo the design in the taillights.

A city crossover with stance

Although the Citycarver is not destined for journeys on long tracks of gravel, it does have a more purposeful stance than other A1s. Audi has lifted the Citycarver by 2-inches for not just a more imposing stance but for usability. That increase in ride height will allow it to survive any urban road decay you might encounter, such as potholes, without any damage.

Slightly different inside

Inside the A1 cabin, the architecture of the interior gains some nice color differentiation. You can choose to have orange trim details on the air vents, center console and door handle surrounds. If you love high-quality sound, (and who doesn't) there is an optional 560-watt Bang&Olufsen audio system upgrade too.

You really want an Orange one

The new A1 Citycarver is available in nine different exterior colors and there are wheels options which are sized 16- to 18-inches in diameter. The color you really want is the Pulse Orange hue, which contrasts best with the black cladding styling elements.

A dynamic drive, for a crossover

Sadly, Audi will only be producing the A1 Citycarver in front-wheel drive. Powering this new urban crossover is be a range of engines with a flavor for almost every need. The most potent of these is a 2-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that has enough grunt for the city and highway. It might not be large on capacity, but it is not short on output, boasting 200hp. With Audi’s slick-shifting seven-speed dual-clutch transmission, performance is entirely rapid.
