Intro

As the calendar inches closer to the month of May much of the country is beginning to experience warmer temperatures. That means that convertible season is upon us. And that got us to thinking. What are the best Audi convertibles of all time? For our list, we included all Audi models, but we did not go all the way back to the DKW, Horch, and Wanderer days. Also, in the interest of variety we tried not to put the same model on the list more than once. We didn’t want this to turn in a list of the best Audi R8 Spyders of all time. So, we picked our favorite variation of the model and stuck with it. Are there any that we missed?

10. Audi Cabriolet (1991 – 2000)

This was the first true Audi convertible. And Audi didn’t bother overthinking the name. It is known simply as the Audi Cabriolet. It was based off the Audi 80, and it made about 130 horsepower. It was not the fastest or sharpest convertible that Audi ever produced. But it was decent looking, performed reasonably well, and you could drop the top.

9. A4 Cabriolet (2007 – 2009)

Audi returned to the convertible game with the A4 Cabriolet. It came in several different flavors. There was the 2.0T FrontTrak, 2.0T quattro, and the 3.2L quattro. Like the original Audi Cabriolet, none of these were overly sporting. But they had a lot more power and standard equipment compared to the first Audi convertible.

8. A3 Cabriolet (2014 – 2019)

The Audi A3 Cabriolet is a much newer car than either the Audi Cabriolet or the A4 Cabriolet we listed previously. And as such it ranks a bit higher than the older models. The A3 is where the Audi lineup begins, but that doesn’t mean the A3 Cabriolet is lacking. It uses the MQB chassis architecture, the top can be opened or closed up to speeds of 31 miles per hour, and it looks great. Again, you won’t be setting any land speed records, but these are nice models to cruise around in and get a little bit of sun.

7. A5 Cabriolet (2020 – current)

The current Audi A5 Cabriolet comes in three different trim levels, but they all use the same 2.0L four-cylinder engine making 261 horsepower. That may not sound like much, but it will get you to 60 mph in about 5.6 seconds. And these new cars are available with a ton of technology including a virtual cockpit, a Bang & Olufsen sound system with 3D sound, and a head-up display. I will take mine in District Green Metallic with an Okapi Brown interior and 19-inch 5-spoke Cavo design wheels. That is not a bad way to cruise around this summer.

6. TT Roadster Final Edition (2023)

Only 50 of these special edition models were ever sold in the U.S. So, chances are you will never see one. And it is not the most powerful TT model ever as it makes just 228 horsepower. But do you want to go that fast when you are looking this good? This car is packed with exclusive features such as the Goodwood Green pearl effect paint, Palomino Brown stitching, and floormats. The Audi magnetic ride suspension system is standard as are 20x9-inch 10-Y-spoke design forged wheels. This car is a beautiful way to say goodbye to the TT.

5. S5 Cabriolet (2020 - current)

If you liked number seven on our list, then you are going to love number five. Take all the good from the regular A5 Cabriolet and ramp up the performance to create the S5 Cabriolet. This car packs 349 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque. It is the most powerful on our list so far. 60 mph is achieved in about 4.7 seconds. The car comes with a more aggressive look and has the performance to back it up.

4. RS 4 quattro Cabriolet (2008)

This car may be older than the last couple on our list but in many ways it is even more special. One of those ways is the 420 horsepower V8 that was also used to power the R8 of the day. The car also came with a 6-speed manual transmission. And only 300 examples of these wonderful cars were ever sold in the U.S. The RS4 quattro Cabriolet is one of the best Audi convertibles ever made.

3. RS 5 Cabriolet (2014 – 2015)

The naturally aspirated V8 engine under the hood of the RS5 Cabriolet actually makes more power here than it does in the R8. The RS5 Cabriolet is good for a stout 450 horsepower. It rockets to 60 mph in just over 4 seconds, and it sounds fantastic while doing so. And hold onto your hat because it will reach a top speed of 174 mph. This car is as beautiful as every other Audi on this list and comes with super car rivaling performance. There are not many Audi convertibles that will put a bigger smile on your face than this one.

2. TT RS Roadster (2019 – 2022)

The TT is the only model we include on this list more than once. And the reason we did is because the TT RS Roadster from 2019 to 2022 was never sold in U.S. But that doesn’t mean we should overlook its awesomeness. The five-cylinder, 2.5L turbo engine develops just about 400 horsepower. There is no manual transmission option, but the seven-speed twin clutch automatic is no slouch. This car is capable of hitting 60 mph in less than 4 seconds. Plus, it looks like nothing else on the road. It also sounds like nothing else on the road. The fastest TT convertible of all time is number 2 on our list.

1. R8 V10 Performance Spyder (2020 – 2023)

There was no escaping the fact that we had to put an R8 on our list. The only questions were which model and where it would rank? We decided on the R8 V10 Performance Spyder, and it goes to the number one spot on our list. By 2023 this model carried an MSRP of over $225K. Not cheap. But a screaming V10 making 602 horsepower between your shoulder blades is an experience that is worth the hefty price of admission. The car has bonkers performance and looks that can rival any super car.
