For those looking for a good winter setup for reasonable $$ I would highly recommend the 16" x 7.5 MM spyder and Goodyear Ultragrip 205/55-16".

These are one of the few 16" wheels that I have found with adequate clearance for the S4's large front calipers. Be sure to get the 7.5 " width as they also come in 7" which do not fit. The offset is 37 mm vs 47 mm stock. They stick out about .5" more than stock. There is no clearance problems or adverse steering effects from the small change in offset. The MM Spyder is supplied with a hubcentric centering ring. They require .5 " longer bolts with a straight taper seat. Cosmetically they are a nice looking 5 spoke design.

The 205/55-16" Goodyear Eagle Utragrip is an excellent winter tire if you are looking for a tire that is biased to ice and wet instead of deep snow. They have a directional tread pattern similar to a racing rain tire. They do not have an overly agreesive snow tire tread design. They are very wide for a 205 and are about the same width as the stock 225 Bridgestone. They are the same overall diameter as the stock 17" setup. On the 16x 7.5" MM wheel they are a very nice fit. The 225/50-16" Ultragrip would be too wide for a snow tire IMO.

I am not normally a big Goodyear fan but these tires are excellent for the type of winter conditions that we have in the Toronto area (a lot of wet pavement with occaisional ice and slush and not so deep snow).

They are VERY quiet and VERY round. Steering response is EXCELLENT... similar to a summer tire without the squishy feel of a typical snow tire . These tires feel great on the highway.. even at VERY HIGH SPEEDS. They almost feel good enough to use for the summer. I believe they are speed rated. I was told that they are manufactured in Germany.

Wet traction is very good and breakaway is progressive and easy to control.

Dry traction is unbelievable for a snow tire!

Ice is also very good.

Snow is OK but not this tire's strongest virtue.

So far treadwear has been good which is a concern on a car as powerful as the S4.

I would highly recommend this combination for anyone who wants a decent winter setup for their S4 or A4
