Product Description: 17" Ronal R28 rims for the Audi A4

Ronal has been offering the A4.org members good deals on their rims for sometime now. A high number of us A4 owners have ordered the R28 rims and tire package, and overall most people are very happy with them. The R28s is a good-looking rim that is easy to clean and compliments the A4's design nicely.

For those of you who are interested in the 17" x 8.5" Ronal R28 wheels, you should pay attention to tire size when you order tires. I would recommend ordering these rims with 235mm wide tires. Due to the width of these rims (8.5" is very wide), any size less than 235 will result in having rims that are wider than tires. I don't need to tell you how fast you will scuff the lips of the rims with you have tires that are skinnier than the rims. You should always have tires that are flush or wider than the rims to offer the wheels protection against scuffs; therefore you will have to go to 235mm wide tires with this particular rim. The exception to this rule is if you are buying the Dunlop 9000 tires; this particular model of tire is actually wide enough in 225 width to protect the rim. But if you purchase any other brand, I would opt for the 235 size. After scuffing my rims several times with the 225mm wide tires, I purchased the 235mm size Dunlop Sport 8000 tires, and they are wide enough to protect the rims.

In addition, when purchasing 235 wide tires, you should buy 40 series tires, and not 45 series tires. The 45 series tires are noticeably taller, and do not look as aggressive as 40 series tires. Difference is vehicle speed due to different diameter tires will be negligible (less than 1% difference).

If you want to upgrade the looks of your R28 rims, I recommend replacing the black Ronal center caps with the center caps off of the 7 spoke Audi Sport rims. Many people have done this (including myself) and the overall look of the wheel is drastically improved. These fit the rims perfectly, and can be ordered through your local dealer or discounted through Clair Parts Express. Part number: 893 601 170, color code 7ZC.

Lastly, if you buy these rims, you will need to keep 5 of your old OEM wheel bolts in your trunk took kit for use with the spare tire. And you will need to carry a 19mm socket in your tool kit as the Audi tool is made for the 17mm OEM wheel bolts, and will be of no help if you ever have to use your spare.

For those of you who have already scuffed your R28 rims, many on the A4.org forums have used the Krylon #1401 Brilliant Silver Spray paint as a match to the silver finish of the R28s.
