One of the many tires I have used on my 97 A4 have been the Dunlop SP9000s. They are basically a high performance tire intended for use in rain and dry weather. They have a high treadwear rating ( I believe 280-320) so they will last. My experience is that they are wearing well under normal use.

The deep tread and tread design are conducive to excellent rain performance. I have used them in light rain before with favorable results. I have not used them in standing water, which is an area that I think they will handle extremely well.

They are quiet and track well in 225/45/17 size. I would recommend them to the semi performance related A4 owner. They are not suited for track use (driving schools) or autocross events. They actually squeal quite badly when taken on a track. I did not purchase them directly (I actually won them) but understand they are about $205/tire at tirerack in the 225/45/17 size, which is decent. If you are a bit more performance related, and do not necessarily care how long your tires last, I would suggest the Bridgestone Potenza S-02 Pole Position tire as an option.
